Our Idea Meeting

When: Thursday 26th April 201 2

When we met we decided to 'fine tune' and finalise our idea. In the time between lectures we had spoken as a group online and come up with the idea of an 'Invisible Band'. To do this, we would set up a drum kit and instruments (depending on what the band had) and conceal speakers in and near each instrument. This way; when onlookers walked around, they would be able to hear the music (specific to that instrument), but they would be unaware of how they could hear each instrument and to whom was playing. This concept we felt would capitalise on the idea that you are instantly focused on the music, paying more attention to it and therefore making decisions on whether you like it based on the actual music rather than the band playing. It was also agreed that people often stereotype or instantly make assumptions on whether they will like something; based on its aesthetics, and will often not give something a chance if aesthetically it doesn't interest them.

Just when we thought we had solidified our idea, I then suggested that maybe it would be a good idea to make the whole experience more interactive; with any audiences being able to interact with the music being played. This was when I suggested we use a program or an iPad app to control each channel of audio going to each speaker. This would mean that if someone was watching, they could choose to increase the volume of the bass or the vocals, and lower some of the other instruments to see whether they preferred the song in another way. Our group agreed that marketing this as an interactive 'studio session' where YOU are the Studio Engineer mixing the session, would be far more appealing and interesting.

It was later decided that for technical and aesthetic reasons it would probably be even better if we had a small mixing desk instead of an iPad as it was after all a Music Tech Fest. We discussed our equipment most of which we all have separately, and as yet do not feel we have to purchase anything else other than small speakers. This however is something we are going to try and avoid if possible.

Our Group.

It was decided two weeks ago the groups we would work with. There is a total of 9 people in our group and our skills vary, due to the fact we have many different course disciplines working with us.  In our first group meeting we discussed the different possibilities for what we could offer- a product or a service. Even though a product may have been a better for generating revenue, we felt that we wanted to create a service that could be reproduced in many different forms, would be an unusual and artistic and lastly thought provoking if possible. This is when ideas were brought forward, utilising and targeting bands- for music, museum like spatial awareness techniques- appealing to listeners and fans of the band but also people who would be interested in a new listening experience, and a 'new performance experience'.
Welcome to my 2012 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Blog!

For this term we have been given a project brief that works alongside an event; soon to be held at Ravensbourne called the Music Tech Fest. This will see many different Music and Sound industry technology experts come together for a day of showcases and other events.

We have been assigned the task of creating and marketing a product or service. This will be tested and showcased at the Music Tech Fest in order for us to gain lots of market research and see; in practice, whether our product/ service is viable and 'sellable'.  After this we will then be able to fine tune our idea with the results of our market research.

The following blog will demonstrate the meetings as a group we have had, our idea, our marketing plans and how we have developed our plan etc.  It will also showcase our final product and include pictures as a visual aid.
