When we met we decided to 'fine tune' and finalise our idea. In the time between lectures we had spoken as a group online and come up with the idea of an 'Invisible Band'. To do this, we would set up a drum kit and instruments (depending on what the band had) and conceal speakers in and near each instrument. This way; when onlookers walked around, they would be able to hear the music (specific to that instrument), but they would be unaware of how they could hear each instrument and to whom was playing. This concept we felt would capitalise on the idea that you are instantly focused on the music, paying more attention to it and therefore making decisions on whether you like it based on the actual music rather than the band playing. It was also agreed that people often stereotype or instantly make assumptions on whether they will like something; based on its aesthetics, and will often not give something a chance if aesthetically it doesn't interest them.
Just when we thought we had solidified our idea, I then suggested that maybe it would be a good idea to make the whole experience more interactive; with any audiences being able to interact with the music being played. This was when I suggested we use a program or an iPad app to control each channel of audio going to each speaker. This would mean that if someone was watching, they could choose to increase the volume of the bass or the vocals, and lower some of the other instruments to see whether they preferred the song in another way. Our group agreed that marketing this as an interactive 'studio session' where YOU are the Studio Engineer mixing the session, would be far more appealing and interesting.
It was later decided that for technical and aesthetic reasons it would probably be even better if we had a small mixing desk instead of an iPad as it was after all a Music Tech Fest. We discussed our equipment most of which we all have separately, and as yet do not feel we have to purchase anything else other than small speakers. This however is something we are going to try and avoid if possible.
